Topic Info:
  • Fairchild is a very large (area) base. Terminal is quite remote from all facilities. In good weather, it is walkable (2 miles to lodging/Bx/Commissary/dining). The base is about 10 miles to the Spokane International Airport (GEG). Taxi will run about $40+ each way. Downtown Spokane is about 15 miles. Flights to Mildenhall every other Monday (typical) with return on the opposite Monday. Occasional flights to Hickam (typically, one per month), and about four per month (typically) to McChord. A Reserve Shuttle (McChord-Fairchild-Hill) runs on Fridays and Sundays of reserve weekend.
Topic Info:
  1. How Do I get from Fairchild AFB to Spokane Intl Airport? (As of: Nov 11)
    1. From Fairchild, you can call a civilian cab for a ride to the airport ($40+), or you can use the Stars & Stripes Shuttle van service, (509) 244-0730. They have access to the base and an airport ride varies between $17-$27 depending on the number of passengers in the van (credit cards (MC/Visa) accepted).
  2. How Do I get from Fairchild AFB to Bus/Train connections (downtown Spokane)? (As of: Nov 09)
    1. Spokane Transit Route #61 comes on base M-F, and will take you downtown between the times of 0700-1730 (+/-). On Sat/Sun, between 0600-2000, the bus only comes to the front gate which is quite a walk from the terminal, or anywhere else on base. The on base bus stops are located at the main gate, BX, FAFB Clinic, and at the corner of Bong & Olympia. The last two stops are probably walkable (less than an hour) from the terminal. You can ride this bus to the airport with a transfer to Spokane Transit Route @60; ask your driver to cue you for the transfer stop. Call Spokane Transit for info (509)328-7433.
    2. If you ride bus #61 into downtown, it's only about a 4 block walk from the last stop (bus plaza), to the Intermodal Transit Center where you can catch Amtrak or Greyhound buses. Greyhound has about 3 buses per day West-bound to Seattle, and one Amtrak train which leaves in the very early AM. Unfortunately, you will have long waits between buses/trains. The lobby is open 24 hours, but the bus and train ticket window is only open around the times when bus/trains arrive and or depart. The address of the bus & train station is: 221 W 1st Ave, Spokane, WA 99204.
    3. Note: Senior fares on Southwest Airlines out of Spokane airport (about $100 for same day, online). One-way car rental tends to be more than twice the cost of air (Hertz/Avis).”
